This year I was excited that Trey was old enough to explore the rugged terrain and I knew this kid would LOVE hangin in the dirt. We hadn't been there for more than 2 minutes when he looked like this:
We decided to camp up Logan Canyon since I have family up that way. I had looked ahead of time to see if we needed to reserve a camp site, but ALL of the sites for the weekend we wanted were already taken. So my brother and his wife went up the morning we were camping and found us a site at a camping ground that supposedly didn't take reservations. Once we got the OK we packed up our stuff and headed to Logan. We got to our camp site and put up the tent, unpacked our stuff, hunted for kindling for the fire, started the fire, and I was just getting started on our tinfoil dinners when a ginormous camping trailer pulled up. Apparently they had reserved our camp site for the weekend even though there were no signs on our spot AND we thought we were at a campground that didn't take reservations. The camp site owners said they had been having trouble with people removing the reservation tags. Nice. The camper people offered to share the site with us, which was super nice of them. They felt bad making us move all our stuff, but we found another site just up the road that was vacant, so we packed it all up and moved. Oh joy.
The rest of the night was great. Trey loved playing outside and our dinners were absolutely delicious. It was a beautiful day and we were in good company. I even asked myself why we didn't do this more often :). Then we went to bed and I remembered why we didn't do this more often. I love everything about camping except packing, disgusting bathrooms, and sleeping in a tent on the hard ground. Our air mattress pump bit the dust, so we were going to borrow my brother's...but he forgot it. I was laying in bed trying to get comfortable when I heard this awful wheezing sound. It sounded like a cat, so I called out to my SIL and asked where the cat was. She busted up laughing and said it was my brother blowing up their air mattress...by mouth :). What a trooper! We made it through the night but didn't get much sleep. I got kicked more times than I can count, and at one point I woke up as Trey was literally rolling over my face. Wish I had that one on video :).
My Aunt Carol met us up there and had dinner with us.
She was awesome to entertain the kiddos as we were moving camp :)
mmm...camping food!
Cousins! Baby Ryker...Trey talked about him for weeks after this camping trip :)
Mommy time
Finding cool rocks and stuff
The next day we pulled out the s'mores stuff, which is one of my absolute favorite things about camping. I sent Dale to the store before we went camping and he came back with this super deluxe s'mores maker :).
I was so excited to get a picture of Trey eating his first s'more. This is all I got:
Hmmm...what is this?
Nope, not gonna happen.
He wouldn't even try it.
All in all, it was a fun trip. But on the way home Dale and I both agreed that we aren't really camping people. We'll do our once a year trip for the kids but we need to find a different summer hobby we really enjoy doing together. Any suggestions?
